Prof. Naituli was born in January, 1961 in Meru North District, Kenya and attended Isiolo Secondary School and Chuka High School for his “O” and “A” levels respectively. He proceeded to MIU-IOWA, USA for BA degree in Business Administration and Government, and an MBA degree in management. In 2004, he graduated from Egerton University with a PhD in Business Management. Prof. Gitile Joseph Naituli has over 20 years-experiences in business management and leadership gained from extensive consulting, facilitation, teaching and research. He is currently the Acting Principal and Deputy Principal (Finance and Administration) and serves as Associate Professor, business management and leadership of management at the University of Virginia, USA and sits on the Advisory Board of Environic Foundation International (EFI) USA, as well as the National Trustee Intervarsity Environmental Network (IVEN). Prof. Naituli is the author of more than 25 papers on leadership and management that have been published in professional journals or presented at various professional international conferences. His research interests include, education for sustainable development and its application to business systems, small to medium enterprises and the implication for sustainable development, small business development and management, gender issues in small business management and development and the implication for poverty alleviation efforts, climate change adoption and mitigation, gender issues in organizational development a management, strategic management and its implications for organizational re-engineering, transformational leadership and its implication for development and conflict resolution and mitigation. Prof. Naituli has been a consultant for UNESCO Windhoek Cluster Office to Angola, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland. He was contracted to facilitate two workshops on reorienting teacher education for sustainable development (ESD) in Namibia and Swaziland for the SADC region in August 2010. Prof. Naituli is a t e c h n i c al specialist with t h e U n i t e d Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Mainstreaming Environment for Sustainability in African Universities (MESA) – Managing MESA’s enabling activities, inter-university communications and ESD activities, co-ordination and needs assessment; assisting with the monitoring, review and evaluation of universities change projects; representing MESA in related expert groups like the consultative group of experts for international networks on climate change held at Ahmedabad, India. He also helps African universities to d e v e l o p projects on adaptation to c l i m a t e change for funding from SIDA-ESD’s ITP programme and also providing technical assistance to the concerned universities, besides organizing, planning and participating in strategic meetings and seminars/workshops. He is currently working on adaptation projects with 15 universities in 15 African Countries. Prof. Naituli was appointed in 2008 cocoordinator for the international training programme in education for sustainable development in higher education in African universities by Ramboll Natura AB and SIDA of Sweden. He Chaired the University of Gondar (Ethiopia) Senate Committee that helped develop a curriculum based on the United Nations guidelines on education for sustainable development (ESD), which used ESD tool kit as resource. The curriculum won the 2007 UNESCO/UNEP MESA AWARD for innovation and application of ESD principles in higher education. |
