
PROF. ADUDA, ODHIAMBO BERNARD
Prof. Aduda graduated with Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in 1984, after which he enrolled at the Department of Physics, University of Nairobi to pursue a Masters Degree in physics (specializing in Materials Science). In 1988, Prof. Aduda proceeded to Imperial College, London for his PhD in Materials Science, graduating in 1991. He has since risen in ranks to the position of Professor (2005), Principal of the College of Biological and Physical Sciences (2011), and Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs at Egerton University. Prof. Aduda has published 63 papers in refereed journals in various areas of materials science, but focusing mainly in the following areas: thermophysical properties of materials, photovoltaics, especially dye sensitized solar cells; elastic wave propagation in materials for non- destructive evaluation of materials, nanotechnology for use in solar cells and water purification, and knowledge brokerage. He has supervised several MSc and PhD students, and has attracted grants several worth several millions (KSh) to develop the Solar Energy laboratory at the University of Nairobi. He has had prestigious fellowships such as the ICTP’s Associate Programme (1993-1999), Commonwealth Fellowship (Imperial College London, 2002-2003), American Science Foundation (2007, Princeton University), International Science Programme (1999, Uppsala University) Besides teaching and research, Prof. Aduda has been actively involved in the promotion of use of non-destructive testing techniques (NDT) in Kenya industrial sector as a member of the Kenya NDT Society (KNDT), promotion of science as a member of other professional societies such as the Kenya Physical Society (KPS), Africa Materials Research Society (AMRS), and the Kenya National Academy of Sciences (KNAS). Prof. Aduda has se rv e d serves as a member of Council of The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST), and The Kenya Polytechnic University College (KPUC), and Honorary Treasurer of the Network of Africa Academy of Sciences (NASAC). He is a fellow of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences (2011).
