Prof. Maitho is a full Professor in Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of Nairobi. Prof. Maitho obtained BVM and MSc Degrees from University of Nairobi, and a PhD Degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from University of London. He has served as a Coordinator of MSc. Degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology in the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology. He has published 81 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 20 Abstracts and supervised 10 PhD and 58 Masters Students to completion. He has served in many Board of Examiners for Postgraduate Students in the University. He has served as a Director of Board of Postgraduate Studies, among other duties in the University. He has undertaken research and consultancies activities in his area of specialization. He has served as External Examiner and visiting Professor in several Universities and also in the National Codex Committee of Veterinary Drug residues. He was awarded Elder of Burning Spear by the State and Veterinarian of the Year award. He has also served as a Chairman of Board of Governors in a Secondary School and as a Member of District Education Board.
